Analog Devices Inc. TMC5262 Smart Stepper Motor Controller/Driver ICs

Analog Devices TMC5262 Smart Stepper Motor Controller and Driver Integrated Circuits (ICs) are miniaturized, high-power, single-axis devices with SPI and extensive diagnostic capabilities. High integration, high energy efficiency, and a small form factor enable miniaturized, scalable, and cost-effective motor drive solutions perfectly suited for Nema 17, Nema 23, and Nema 24 steppers. The ADI TMC5262 ICs come in a compact, near-chip-scale, thermally optimized 30-pin 6mm x 6mm FCQFN package.

StealthChop+ ensures noiseless operation and maximum efficiency, optimal motor torque control, and dampening of mid-range motor resonances, resulting in a smoothly running motor with low mechanical vibrations. Combined with StallGuard+, CoolStep+, and µDcStep, this results in a highly efficient and versatile stepper motor driver. An unloaded Nema 17 motor runs automatically with as little as 10mA of supply current.

The ADI TMC5262 ICs combine a flexible eight-point ramp generator for automatic positioning with a smart 256 microstep motor driver and two integrated 65V, 4.25ARMS, 6A peak H-bridges plus non-dissipative integrated current sensing. The integrated current sensing eliminates the need for bulky external sense resistors, resulting in space and power savings.

The integrated power MOSFETs' low impedance of ~40mΩ ensures high efficiency and low heat generation. Abundant diagnostics include an on-chip scope interface for tuning and checking (RT-OCSI), temperature and voltage analog-to-digital converters (ADCs), and a full set of protection functions, such as short-circuit protection and thermal shutdown.
